Tour’s Program

This 8 days cultural excursion begins from the holy city Lhasa where we will be staying for three days. As soon as you arrive at Lhasa, the vase azure sky and the majestic view of the massive Potala Palace will greet you. The Potala palace, located on top of a small hill known as the Red Hill, is easily one of the most recognizable monuments in the whole of Tibet and the world. The holy city of Lhasa is also home to some of the most popular historical and sacred religious sites of Tibet including the Jokhang temple, the great monasteries of Sera and Drepung. After exploring Lhasa with proper acclimatization, we will head towards the Gyantse and Shigatse in the western Tibet. On way we will get to view the holy Yomdrok lake which will be a treat for your eyes and Mt.Nyenchen Kangsar with its snow capped peaks will add crowns to its breathtaking beauty. After that we drive into the Changthang (Northern nomadic plain) where you get to observe the Tibetan nomadic traditional lifestyle. This part of Tibet is rarely traveled by mass tourism. Next destination would be Yangpachen by crossing the Shogula pass and then to Namtso lake.

Day 1 – 3 Arrival at Lhasa

Upon arriving at Lhasa, you will be met by our representatives and transferred to your hotel for check-in which is located in the old part of the city or the Tibetan Area. The holy Jokhang temple and the busy Bakhor Street will be at the center of your hotel area and that will let you peek into the daily traditional lives of Tibetan living there. Over the next following days you will be visiting few world heritage sites such as Potala Palace- one of seven wonders of world according to USA today in 2006. And Jokhang temple, most sacred temple in Tibet with important collection of cultural artifacts. Pilgrims from far and wide have taken arduous journeys across mountains and rivers to visit the temple since centuries back. The street around the Jokhang temple, colloquially known as the Barkhor, is famous for its traditional market, which also serves as a meeting point for pilgrims from different places. It is a real pleasure to walk, rubbing shoulders with other pilgrims and tourists on this bustling street. The street is also regarded highly in spirituality, as a walk circumambulating the Barkhor on this street is considered as one of the most devotional circuits. The great monasteries of Sera and Drepung, which are also located in Lhasa, are two of the most advanced traditional learning centres in ancient Tibet. Numerous scholars and practitioners of the Tibetan Buddhist faith have passed through these monasteries. After that visit to NorbuLinga which served as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas. We also arrange special visits to typical Tibetan villages to meet families or receive rare, sacred blessings from high lamas.

Day 4 – 5 Kubhum stupa, Tashi Lhunpo monastery

In next two days we will be crossing over the Gampa la Pass and Karo la Pass to Gyantse and Shigatse. On way we will get to view the holy Yomdrok lake which will be a treat for your eyes and Mt.Nyenchen Kangsar with its snow capped peaks will add crowns to its breathtaking beauty. Gyantse and Shigatse are well known for their historical and religious value and many foreigners have been known to enjoy these ancient towns. Gyantse is also known as a ‘hero’s town’ and was previously the capital of a 14th century kingdom. You will feel the authentic traditional Tibetan life as these regions have slightly different traditions than those of Lhasa. We will visit the Gyantse Kubhum stupa and Tashi Lhunpo monastery when we reach these two towns.

Day 6 - 7 Changthang Drogpa, Namtso lake

As we ride to Changthang Drogpa(Northern nomads) grassland , we will cross over the high peak of Shogula pass(5400m) to Yangpachen which is famous for hot springs. Changthang Drogpa grassland is not much known to the mass tourism. It has a sparse population of nomads in the vast pastures, hundreds of beautiful lakes with abounding wild lives living in that area. Namtso lake is one of the Lakes and it is considered as one of the most holiest as well as most gorgeous lake in Tibet. It is also the world highest salt water lake. We will spend a night on the Tashi Dor peninsula as we can enjoy the cold breeze of the mystical lake and stunning view of snow capped ranges all around. On way to back to Lhasa, we will visit a fully fledged nomad family to give you the experiences of the traditional nomad lifestyle. The giant black tent which they live in is made up of yak wool. It has a great tendency to accommodate the plateau changeable climate as it preserve heat and resist rain. Each tent is a whole complex of kitchen, bedroom, seating room and store room for the family.
